MISE-EN-SCENE

Props - Items characters use or pick up in the scene. In our film we will use suit cases, newspaper, keys and a pair of glasses.

Location - A place where the scene is set. We want to set our short film in several locations. some of these include Ottery St Mary Church. We will use the graveyard in the church. this is to create a horror feel and suspense. A  graveyard connotes death.

We also want to use the butchers. This is to take pictures of pigs hanging up. This connotes eating and slaughter.

We want to use empty streets at night, the dark empty streets connote loneliness and vulnerability. Which is what the girl in the film represents.

We are also going to use a house. This will be her house in the film. As she walks up to her house the  lights will be on and the house will look homely. The lights will then turn off once she is inside, this is representing danger, which she is in at this point.

Characters - We will use two main characters and some other extras which will hardly be seen. The two main characters are Issei and a German girl. Issei is a skinny pale man who is quiet, strange and mysterious. The German girl is beautiful and slim with dark hair.

Shots - We will use several shots during our film, some of these include long shots of the scenery, close ups and extreme close ups of the newspaper and the German girl. Slow mo shots of the suitcases rolling down the bank towards the river and the camera panning through the graveyard. (All shots are shown on our story board and timeline)

Costumes - Clothes the character is wearing. The German girl will wear a dress, coat, scarf and heels. She is wearing heels so we can hear the along the path.

Issei will be wearing all black, a black turtle neck, black trousers a black coat, black shoes and large black glasses.

Sounds - We want to start our film off in a graveyard. Whilst the camera is panning through the graveyard we want a scary soundtrack playing in the background, this will make the atmosphere spooky. At the end of the film, we want scream and gunshot sounds. This is to show that she has been shot and is in pain without showing that happening. We also want there to be exaggerated sounds of her shoes along the oath as she walks. That will make the scene more scary and mysterious.

Low Key Lighting - a dimly lit scene with lots of shadow

High Key Lighting - a bright and well lit scene with very few shadows

Expressions - the ways the characters face looks and the way they hold their body. For example this could be in a confident way

The highlighted terms are terms that we will use in our own film.

What is our idea?

Our idea is based on a true story about Issei Sagawa. Issei is a man who follows women back to their homes. Kills them then eats them. He then dumps the left over bodies in rivers. The film will be a thriller. there will be enigmas, suspense, low key lighting and eerie music.
