MoodBoard

I gathered several images from Pinterest to create a MoodBoard for our idea. This helps us visualise where we will film it and what props we will use.

For example I have got images of a church, a dark empty street at night, gravestones, suitcases, a river, a newspaper and a pair of glasses.

These are all props and locations we are planning to film at and use.

Camera

An Aerial Shot is a view that is directly from above

An Establishing Shot is a shot that is usually wide or long and is often used at the start to establish the relationship between the set or location

A Hand-Held Shot is a shot filmed without a tripod. This makes the shot more shaky

A High Angle shot is to provide a view from above the subject. This makes the subject look vulnerable

A Low Angle shot is a shot where the camera approaches the subject from below eye level. It emphasises the size of the object being filmed

A Pan is a camera action where the camera gently moves 180 degrees across the subject

A Master Shot is a camera shot used at the beginning of a sequence to establish the components and elements in such a way as to allow the audience to make sense of the action follows

A POV Shot  is a camera shot taken from the position of the subjects, used to enhance a sense of realism and audience involvement in the action

A Tilt is a camera movement that involves moving the camera vertically up and down in a fixed position

A Tracking Shot is when the shot in which the camera angles move along and follow the subject

Editing

Cross Cutting is when an editor cuts between two separate scenes happening in two separate locations

A Cut is the move from one shot to another

A Cutaway is a brief shot that is not necessary but is cut into a scene showing an action that is related

A Dissolve is when the first shot is on the screen and the second shot starts appearing on top of it. It stays on the screen until the first shot ha gone

An Invisible Cut is when you don't realise there has been a cut unless you know what you are looking for

A Fade is a type of moving image editing where the image gradually fades and then disappears.

A Jump Cut is a cut that moves to a very similar part of the same scene but is missing a part of action out. For example a character is on one side of the room, and then is on the other side of the room. This happens without us seeing him walking

A J-cut is when you hear what is going on before you see what is going on

The highlighted terms are terms that we will use in our own film.

Sound

Ambient sound is the sound of the location the character is in. For example water noises, this would mean the character would be by a river. It tells us what sort of place the character is in.

Dialogue is the words that the character says. It also helps us understand what their emotion is. If the characters voice is wobbly, it could mean they are nervous or scared.

Diegetic Sound is sound that you could hear if you were one of the characters. This includes words from the characters, background noises and music on the radio ect.

Non Diegetic sound is sound that characters in the scene can not hear. This could be a soundtrack.

Pitch is how high or how low the sound is. For example a high pitch sound is a sound that is higher and lighter like a phone ringing and a low pitch sound is a deeper sound like thunder.

Sound Effects are sounds that accompany an action. this could be anything eg a car crashing.

Sound workshop with Tom Joyce

Tom Joyce, a year 13 student came into our lesson to teach us about sound. He showed us how to use Audacity and the sound equipment.

Syncing sound:
You start by turning on the microphone and the recording device. You then call what is being shot then the take. After, you clap. This makes it visually easier to see when to sync the sound when on audacity. This is because the sound waves on audacity have changed height. You then record the sound. once recorded, you turn off the mic and the recorder then upload the sound to audacity.

Pitch

Jack and I pitched our ides for our film to the rest of our media class. We spoke about our idea, the actors we are planning to use and props ect. Once we finished the pitch we asked who would come and watch the film if it were in a cinema and the whole class said they would.

Feedback from our pitch:

Liam Heath -  I think the story sounds really thrilling
and if filmed well it will turn out amazing. Liam enjoys Horror, action and thriller films.

Eleanor Savage - I think it is good as the film is based on true events and it sounds really unique. Eleanor enjoys all films.
